How to Install Stremio on Firestick (Step by Step, 2026)

Stremio is the easiest premium streaming app available — and once you pair it with Real-Debrid, it beats Netflix for breadth of content. Here’s the complete install walkthrough for Firestick, including the Torrentio addon that does most of the magic.

TL;DR

Install Downloader on your Firestick, enable sideloading, download the Stremio APK from stremio.com/getapks, install it, then add the Torrentio addon and connect Real-Debrid. About 10 minutes total. You’ll have 4K HDR streaming working at the end.

  • 📺 A Firestick (any generation; 4K Max recommended for 4K content)

Step 1 — Enable sideloading on your Firestick

If you’ve already enabled sideloading (e.g., to install Kodi or another APK), skip to Step 2.

To enable:

  1. Firestick home screen → Settings (gear icon)
  2. My Fire TV → About
  3. Click the first item (your device name) 7 times in a row
  4. You’ll see “No need, you are already a developer!”
  5. Go back to My Fire TV → Developer Options
  6. Click “Install Unknown Apps”
  7. Find Downloader → toggle ON (we’ll install Downloader in the next step if you don’t have it)

Step 2 — Install Downloader

If you already have Downloader, skip to Step 3.

  1. Firestick home → search → type “Downloader”
  2. Select Downloader by AFTVnews
  3. Click Get / Download → wait → Open
  4. Grant permissions when prompted

Step 3 — Download Stremio

  1. Open Downloader
  2. In the URL field, type: stremio.com/getapks
  3. Click Go
  4. The Stremio download page loads — click the “Stremio for Android TV” link
  5. Wait for the APK to download (about 30 seconds)
  6. When prompted, click Install
  7. After install, click Done (not Open yet)
  8. Downloader asks if you want to delete the APK file — click Delete

Step 4 — Set up Stremio

  1. Open Stremio from your apps list
  2. Create a free Stremio account (just email + password)
  3. Verify your email by clicking the link Stremio sends you
  4. Log in on your Firestick using the credentials

Step 5 — Install the Torrentio addon (the magic part)

Out of the box, Stremio shows you legal sources (YouTube, official partner addons). To unlock premium streaming, add the Torrentio addon.

On Stremio:

  1. Click the puzzle piece icon (Addons)
  2. In the search bar, paste: https://torrentio.strem.fun/manifest.json
  3. Click Install
  4. Configure the addon:

– Quality: select 720p, 1080p, 4K (uncheck SD)

– Provider: leave defaults – Sort: by seeders (highest first)

  1. Save

Torrentio adds streaming sources from public trackers — but to actually play them at 4K quality, you need Real-Debrid.

Step 6 — Connect Real-Debrid

If you don’t have Real-Debrid yet, sign up here ($3/month). It’s the single biggest stream-quality upgrade you can make.

To connect:

  1. In Stremio → Settings → Account
  2. Scroll to Premium section
  3. Click Real-Debrid
  4. Stremio shows you a code (like X7K9-A2B3)
  5. On your phone: go to real-debrid.com/device → log in → enter the code
  6. Stremio confirms “Connected” within a few seconds

Now Torrentio uses Real-Debrid to deliver cached 4K streams that load in seconds.

Step 7 — Test it

  1. From Stremio’s home, search for any current movie (e.g., a recent Marvel release)
  2. Click the movie → click “Watch”
  3. The source list opens
  4. Look for sources tagged [RD] — these are Real-Debrid premium streams
  5. Click any [RD] source → it should start playing in 2-5 seconds with 4K quality

If you see [RD] sources but they fail to play, your VPN might be causing latency. Switch to a server closer to home. If you see no [RD] sources, re-do Step 6 — your Real-Debrid auth didn’t complete.

Tweaks to make Stremio even better

Subtitle settings: Settings → Subtitles → set to your preferred language, enable auto-load.

Player settings: Settings → Player → enable hardware acceleration (smoother 4K playback).

Library sync: Settings → Account → enable Trakt integration. Now your watch history syncs across all Stremio installations (and Kodi if you use both).

Performance optimization for older Firesticks: If you’re on a Firestick gen-2 or gen-3, lower default quality to 1080p in Torrentio settings. 4K on older hardware causes constant buffering.

Stremio vs the alternatives

If Stremio doesn’t fit your needs, the closest alternatives:

Common installation issues

“App not installed” error: You have a previous version of Stremio still on the device. Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications → find Stremio → Uninstall. Then retry the install.

Stremio crashes immediately on opening: Hardware acceleration conflict. Reboot the Firestick. If it persists, try Stremio’s “lite” version from stremio.com.

Torrentio addon won’t install: The URL changed. Search r/StremioAddons for the current Torrentio manifest URL — it gets updated occasionally.

No sources showing for any movie: Torrentio failed to load. Remove and reinstall the addon. Check that quality filters aren’t set too restrictively.
